Instructor. “Portraiture.” San Francisco Art Institute, Community Education, San Francisco, CA. 2/21/02-5/9/02. A studio course designed to explore the genre of portraiture and some of the tenets and considerations of this mode ofworking. Instruction focused on the development of pictorial relationships concerning compositional structure, value, color,paint quality and mediums. Students received exposure to the discipline of generating a painting from a first impressionto a rigorous finished work in full detail. The intention of this course was to become aware of the making of art as a processof self-reference. Some artists view the world as if through a mirror at what is happening “out there”, while others viewthe world as if looking in a mirror at a world inside them. Either way the autobiographical vantage point is implicit.
